Grandma Daisy’s Angel Biscuits

6 cups all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons baking powder

I tablespoon salt

1/2 cup Buzz & Bloom Organic Non-GMO Honey

8 ounces butter, frozen, grated on a box grater and frozen again

2 cups buttermilk, chilled

1 cup Buzz & Bloom Organic Non-GMO Honey

4 ounces butter, melted

1/4 cup benne seeds

2 tablespoons sea salt


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Using your fingertips, toss butter into dry ingredients until mixture looks like crumbs (the fast the better, you don’t want the fats to melt).
  2. In a separate bowl, combine honey and buttermilk. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the chilled buttermilk. Stir just until the dough comes together and fold until all the dry flour disappears.
  3. Place biscuit dough on a lightly floured surface and roll out until they are 1 inch thick. Cut with a 1.5-inch x 1.5-inch square cookie cutter or cut to this size with a knife. Place on a parchment lined sheet tray side by side with the biscuits almost touching.
  4. Bake until biscuits are tall and light gold on top, approximately 20 minutes, rotating sheet tray half way through. Remove from oven and brush with melted butter mixed with honey and a little sea salt. Serve with benne seeds and sea salt.
